Easier Entry for International Conference Guests

The South Korean government has introduced a new policy to make it more convenient for foreign professionals attending international conferences. Participants are no longer required to travel alone; they can now bring up to two companions with them to Korea.

This initiative is designed to strengthen the MICE industry (a sector focusing on Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions), which is known for generating high economic value.

"Allowing participants to bring companions encourages longer stays and more local spending, providing a significant boost to the regional tourism sector."

Who Can Join the Main Participant?

Previously complex visa or entry procedures have been streamlined. The following individuals are now eligible to accompany the conference attendee:

  • Family and Relatives: Spouses, children, or other family members interested in sightseeing.
  • Support Staff: Assistants, secretaries, or technical personnel necessary for the conference.

These companions can support the professional's work while also enjoying the cultural and leisure activities Korea has to offer.

Expected Economic Impact

International conferences are more than just business meetings. When experts travel with companions, it leads to increased demand in hospitality, dining, and retail sectors.

By facilitating easier entry, the government hopes to establish Korea as a premier global hub for conventions (large-scale formal meetings of people with shared interests). This policy is expected to attract more international visitors and revitalize the domestic economy.
